Article: 2023 Hubert Lamy

Domaine Hubert Lamy Saint-Aubin 1er Cru "En Remilly" 2023

2023 Hubert Lamy

The parade of hits just keeps coming, 2023 Hubert Lamy arrives next week. These wines need no introduction; every time I have offered them, I have virtually sold through everything I have. Since my last offer in February, the press has come out with, as expected, some very strong reviews. I have included them with today's offer. I have also been able to reload on a couple of previously sold-out cuvées, so if you missed out last time, here is your chance.

There is a reason the wine world has fallen in love with Olivier Lamy — he is simply one of the best white Burgundy producers working today. His wines strike a rare balance between richness and precision, with a purity of fruit and sense of place that is hard to match at any price point. Whether you are adding to an existing vertical or discovering Lamy for the first time, these are wines that will reward patience and cellar beautifully. Pick some up today, as they will be ready to ship the week of May 11.

The 2023 Saint-Aubin La Princée comes from a vineyard suffering degeneration of vines, so one-third is younger vines. It has another vivid bouquet with yellow plum and citrus peel scents, just a touch of dewy green apple. The palate is fresh and vibrant with a keen line of acidity, open and quite forward with Cornice pear and cooking apple notes towards the finish. Delightful.

The 2023 Saint-Aubin Les Frionnes ler Cru comes from various aged vines within five holdings that represent 2.7 hectares. You cannot help but imagine a stormy sea coast on the nose due to its tangible salinity. The palate is very well balanced with quite an intense, almost viscous opening. This has a keen line of acidity, taut and fresh with just a touch of exoticism on the finish courtesy of that warm summer.

The 2023 Saint-Aubin Derrière Chez Edouard ler Cru comes from vines on white marl soil, planted between 1985 and 2001. It has a harmonious bouquet with touches of shucked oyster shell infusing the green apple scents and a touch of dewy meadow. The palate is very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, though I am just missing a little mineralité and terroir expression on the finish due to the growing season. Fine but I preferred the 2022 a year earlier. 2022 Vintage Available here.

Picked from September 2, the 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet La Concis de Champs has impressive mineralité on the nose, lending more complexity than the previous vintage. The palate is taut and linear on the entry, a subtle marine influence here, sapid with oyster shell and seaweed notes towards the finish. This is going to be difficult to resist in its youth, so maybe just don't?

The 2023 Saint-Aubin En Remilly ler Cru comes from a slightly warmer mesoclimate as it is protected from the wind. This has a superb bouquet with much more tension and mineralité compared to the Chez Edouard. Plenty of energy here. The palate is well balanced with fine acidity, crisp and taut, bright towards the saline finish with a tingle of spice on the aftertaste. Lovely.
