Notes:
Producer: Domaine Jérôme Chézeaux is a discreet but highly respected family estate based in Premeaux-Prissey, just south of Nuits-Saint-Georges. Jérôme Chézeaux has guided the domaine since 1993, and today works alongside his daughter Lyse Chézeaux, whose increasing involvement has brought additional precision while preserving the estate's traditional philosophy. The domaine farms approximately 12 hectares across some of the Côte de Nuits' most prestigious villages, including holdings in Vosne-Romanée, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Vougeot, and Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru. Viticulture emphasizes sustainable farming, naturally low yields, meticulous hand harvesting, and careful fruit selection. In the cellar, intervention is deliberately restrained. Fermentations are carried out with indigenous yeasts after complete destemming, followed by patient élevage in French oak using only moderate amounts of new wood. The objective is always to allow each vineyard to express its individual character rather than impose a house style. Although the domaine has remained relatively under the radar, collectors increasingly recognize Chézeaux as one of Burgundy's strongest value producers, particularly for its Vosne-Romanée bottlings, which consistently deliver the village's hallmark elegance and perfume.
Vineyard: The village Vosne-Romanée is assembled from several estate parcels situated throughout the appellation, including vineyards near Aux Réas, Les Vigneux, Aux Communes, and Croix Blanche. These sites are planted on the classic limestone and clay soils that have made Vosne-Romanée one of Burgundy's most celebrated villages. Compared with neighboring Nuits-Saint-Georges, Vosne generally produces wines of greater aromatic complexity, finer tannins, and a distinctly silkier texture. Floral notes, Asian spice, and vibrant red fruit often define the appellation, while the limestone-rich soils preserve freshness and mineral precision. The 2024 growing season produced a very small crop throughout Vosne-Romanée, but careful growers were able to produce wines with bright fruit, lively acidity, and excellent transparency, emphasizing elegance over sheer power.
Winemaking: Grapes are harvested entirely by hand before careful sorting and complete destemming. Alcoholic fermentation proceeds with indigenous yeasts using gentle extraction techniques designed to preserve perfume and finesse. The wine matures for approximately 15 to 18 months in French oak barrels, with roughly 20–30% new oak, providing subtle structure without obscuring the vineyard character. Bottling follows sufficient élevage to harmonize fruit, tannin, and oak while maintaining freshness and purity. The resulting style reflects both the elegance of Vosne-Romanée and Chézeaux's restrained approach to winemaking, producing a village wine capable of both early enjoyment and graceful bottle development.
Food Pairing: Pair with roast duck, veal tenderloin, pork loin with wild mushrooms, roast chicken, beef tenderloin, mushroom risotto, quail, or aged Comté. The wine's silky texture, lifted aromatics, and vibrant acidity also make it an excellent match for dishes featuring black truffles, chanterelles, or delicate Pinot Noir reductions.
