Robert Chevillon

2022 Robert Chevillon

The current uncertainty around European wine tariffs has thrown a wrench into the market. Many of my suppliers are reporting a painfully slow last couple of months. I’ve noticed something I have not seen for quite some time: wines that are typically rarely offered, are not only being offered, they are being offered at significant discounts! That’s how this parcel of 2022 Robert Chevillon came to my door. The offer was so compelling, I couldn’t say no. In fact, many of these wines are priced below  what I paid for the same labels just over a year ago.

You don’t normally get Chevillon in this way. These wines don’t just “become available.” You chase them. You beg for them. You maybe get a case or two—and then you shake your tin cup, begging and waiting another year.

My best guess…the looming threat of European wine tariffs spooked the supply chain. Importers paused. Allocations slipped. And for once, instead of fighting to secure a few precious cases of Chevillon, this parcel landed on my doorstep, priced like it lost its passport. This is a first for me.

Not to sound like a broken record, because I’ve said many times, few domaines have so consistently hit the high-water mark as Domaine Robert Chevillon. I’ve followed this estate since my earliest days in the Burgundy wine business, and it remains a personal favorite. Not only do I have multiple vintages in my own cellar, but I’ve had the pleasure of drinking more bottles than I can count over the years. Chevillon’s wines have always been that rare combination in Burgundy, accessible in price, yet capable of delivering the kind of soul-stirring Burgundy experience you’d expect from bottles two or three times the cost. For decades now, this domaine has made such compelling wines from Les Cailles, Vaucrains, Les St. Georges, that the call to elevate parts of Nuits-St-Georges to Grand Cru feels inevitable.

Don’t get too-too excited….this parcel only includes a couple of cases of each, however the opportunity is undeniable. If you're a fan of the domaine, or if you've ever wanted to see what all the fuss is about, this is one of those rare windows. These are some of the most pedigreed, long-lived, and undervalued wines in Burgundy—and for once, the pricing truly reflects that. Scoop them up while you can!
