Notes:
- Producer: Domaine Jean-Claude Ramonet is one of the benchmark estates of Chassagne-Montrachet, founded by Pierre Ramonet in the late 1920s and now managed by the third generation of the family. The domaine farms approximately 17 hectares across 24 appellations, producing roughly 70% white wines and 30% red wines from vineyards in Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet, Saint-Aubin, Bouzeron, and Pernand-Vergelesses. Vineyard work centers on sustainable farming, controlled yields, manual harvesting, and traditional Burgundian winemaking, with every cuvée receiving the same meticulous attention regardless of appellation. The estate's red wines have long been considered among the finest examples of Pinot Noir produced in Chassagne-Montrachet.
- Vineyard: The Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge is produced from estate-owned Pinot Noir parcels within the village appellation of Chassagne-Montrachet. The vineyards are planted on classic clay-limestone soils with a high proportion of stone, providing excellent drainage while contributing freshness, structure, and mineral definition. Careful pruning, soil cultivation, canopy management, and hand harvesting ensure consistently high fruit quality. The 2022 vintage benefited from a warm, sunny growing season with healthy fruit and excellent ripening conditions throughout the Côte de Beaune, allowing producers such as Ramonet to craft wines that combine generous fruit, vibrant acidity, and outstanding balance.
- Winemaking: Grapes are harvested entirely by hand before being carefully sorted and fermented using traditional Burgundian methods with gentle extraction to preserve aromatic purity and refined tannins. The wine is matured for 12 to 15 months on its lees in French oak barrels, with approximately one-third new oak, allowing additional texture and complexity while maintaining balance and transparency of terroir. Ramonet's restrained élevage emphasizes finesse, precision, and the expression of Pinot Noir rather than overt oak influence.
- Technical Details: Chassagne-Montrachet Village AOC; 2022 vintage; 100% Pinot Noir; estate-grown fruit; clay-limestone soils; vines 18 years of age and older; hand harvested; traditional Burgundian vinification; aged 12–15 months on lees in French oak barrels with approximately 33% new oak; 13.5% ABV; natural cork closure.
- Food Pairing: Roast chicken, duck breast, grilled pork tenderloin, veal chops, beef bourguignon, mushroom risotto, roasted quail, charcuterie, Comté, Époisses, and aged Gruyère. The wine's combination of bright red fruit, lively acidity, refined tannins, and subtle oak integration makes it an excellent match for roasted poultry, earthy mushroom dishes, lighter red meats, and aged cheeses, while its balance and structure provide the potential for graceful bottle development over the next decade.
