Notes:
- Producer: Domaine Jean-Claude Ramonet is one of the benchmark estates of Chassagne-Montrachet, with the family's modern reputation established by Pierre Ramonet, whose meticulous vineyard work helped elevate the domaine among Burgundy's most respected producers. Today, the estate is managed by Noël Ramonet alongside Anne-France, Clarisse, Michael, and Pierre Ramonet, continuing a philosophy centered on low yields, manual harvesting, and traditional Burgundian winemaking. The domaine farms approximately 17 hectares across 24 appellations, with roughly 70% Chardonnay and 30% Pinot Noir, including holdings in Montrachet, Chevalier-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet, and numerous Premier Cru vineyards. Although the estate is internationally renowned for its white wines, the same uncompromising attention to detail is applied to its Pinot Noir, producing wines that emphasize purity, finesse, and transparency of terroir.
- Vineyard: The Bourgogne Pinot Noir is produced from estate-owned vineyards surrounding Chassagne-Montrachet in the southern Côte de Beaune. The parcels are planted predominantly on limestone, marl, and clay-limestone soils that provide freshness, mineral structure, and aromatic precision. Vineyard work includes careful pruning, canopy management, soil cultivation, and hand harvesting to ensure optimal fruit quality. The 2023 vintage was one of the warmest on record in Burgundy, producing abundant, healthy fruit and allowing harvest in the Côte de Beaune to begin as early as August 24. Careful disease management throughout the growing season and favorable conditions at harvest enabled meticulous producers such as Ramonet to produce wines with ripe fruit, excellent balance, and the classical expression of their vineyards.
- Winemaking: Grapes are harvested entirely by hand before being carefully sorted and fermented using traditional Burgundian methods. Gentle maceration preserves aromatic purity while extracting fine tannins and color. The wine is matured for approximately 12 to 15 months in French oak barrels, with village and regional wines typically seeing around 5% new oak, allowing the fruit and vineyard character to remain at the forefront. The restrained élevage reflects the domaine's philosophy of producing wines that faithfully express both the vintage and the terroir.
- Technical Details: Bourgogne Rouge AOC; 2023 vintage; 100% Pinot Noir; estate-grown fruit from vineyards surrounding Chassagne-Montrachet; approximately 17-hectare family estate; limestone, marl, and clay-limestone soils; hand harvested; traditional Burgundian vinification; gentle maceration; aged 12–15 months in French oak with approximately 5% new oak; sustainably farmed; natural cork closure.
- Food Pairing: Roast chicken, duck breast, grilled pork tenderloin, roast quail, mushroom risotto, beef bourguignon, grilled salmon, charcuterie, Comté, Gruyère, and Brie de Meaux. The wine's combination of vibrant red fruit, bright acidity, fine tannins, and restrained oak makes it equally suited to roasted poultry, earthy mushroom dishes, lighter cuts of meat, and semi-firm cheeses, while its freshness allows it to pair beautifully with richer seafood preparations such as grilled salmon or seared tuna.
