Notes:
Producer: Domaine Maratray-Dubreuil is a family-owned estate based in Ladoix-Serrigny, where the Maratray family has produced traditional Burgundies for three generations. Farming approximately 16 hectares across some of the Côte de Beaune's most respected appellations, including Aloxe-Corton, Ladoix, Pernand-Vergelesses, Savigny-lès-Beaune, and Corton-Charlemagne, the domaine remains committed to expressing each vineyard through careful farming and restrained cellar work. Rather than emphasizing extraction or heavy oak influence, Maratray-Dubreuil allows each climat to speak for itself, producing wines that emphasize purity, balance, and longevity. Their Premier Cru holdings in Savigny-lès-Beaune are among the estate's finest expressions of Pinot Noir and consistently represent outstanding value within the Côte de Beaune.
Vineyard: Les Vergelesses is one of Savigny-lès-Beaune's most highly regarded Premier Cru vineyards, situated on the hillside bordering Pernand-Vergelesses at the northern end of the appellation. The vineyard benefits from a prime east-facing exposure and shallow limestone-rich soils mixed with clay and fractured rock, providing excellent drainage while naturally limiting vine vigor. This exceptional terroir consistently produces Pinot Noir with lifted aromatics, refined tannins, and pronounced mineral character. Sharing the same hillside as the renowned Pernand-Vergelesses Premier Cru Les Vergelesses, the vineyard has long been recognized for producing wines of elegance, structure, and impressive aging potential.
Winemaking: Grapes are harvested entirely by hand before undergoing careful sorting to ensure only the healthiest fruit reaches the cellar. Fermentation follows traditional Burgundian methods with gentle extraction to preserve aromatic purity and vineyard character. The wine is then matured in French oak barrels, with a restrained use of new oak to enhance texture without overshadowing the fruit. This measured approach allows the natural elegance of Les Vergelesses to remain at the forefront, producing a Pinot Noir that combines vibrant red fruit, refined structure, and remarkable transparency while faithfully expressing both the vineyard and the vintage.
