Notes:
Producer: Domaine Maratray-Dubreuil is a family-owned estate located in Ladoix-Serrigny at the northern end of the Côte de Beaune, where three generations of the Maratray family have quietly built a reputation for producing classically styled Burgundies that faithfully express their terroir. Farming approximately 16 hectares across Ladoix, Aloxe-Corton, Pernand-Vergelesses, Savigny-lès-Beaune, and Chorey-lès-Beaune, the domaine remains committed to traditional viticulture and restrained winemaking. Rather than pursuing extraction or excessive oak influence, the focus is on balance, finesse, and transparency, allowing each vineyard to reveal its own personality. Their Premier Cru holdings in Pernand-Vergelesses consistently offer exceptional value within the Côte de Beaune.
Vineyard: Les Fichots is one of Pernand-Vergelesses' eight Premier Cru climats, situated on the lower slopes of the western side of the Hill of Corton. The vineyard benefits from classic limestone and clay soils with abundant stones that provide excellent drainage while encouraging deep root systems. The cooler microclimate of Pernand-Vergelesses helps preserve freshness and aromatic lift, producing Pinot Noir that emphasizes elegance over sheer power. Les Fichots is particularly admired for combining bright red fruit with refined structure and mineral precision, making it one of the appellation's most distinctive Premier Cru sites.
Winemaking: Grapes are harvested entirely by hand before careful sorting in the cellar to ensure only pristine fruit is selected. Fermentation follows traditional Burgundian methods with gentle extraction to preserve the purity of the Pinot Noir. The wine is then matured in French oak barrels, where it develops additional texture and complexity without sacrificing freshness or vineyard expression. Domaine Maratray-Dubreuil favors a measured approach to élevage, allowing the fruit, structure, and mineral character of Les Fichots to remain the defining elements of the finished wine. The result is a Premier Cru that balances concentration with elegance while remaining approachable in its youth and capable of rewarding extended bottle age.
