Notes:
Producer: Founded in 1903 in the village of Remigny, Domaine Borgeot is one of the Côte de Beaune's most dependable family estates. Today, fourth-generation brothers Laurent and Pascal Borgeot oversee approximately 24 hectares of sustainably farmed vineyards spanning Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet, Santenay, and Bouzeron. Their philosophy emphasizes precision in the vineyard and restraint in the cellar, producing wines that faithfully reflect their origins. While the domaine has earned an outstanding reputation for its Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Crus, Clos de la Comme Dessus has quietly become one of its finest values, consistently delivering quality that rivals wines from far more prestigious appellations.
Vineyard: Clos de la Comme Dessus is a prized lieu-dit located on the northern edge of Santenay, immediately adjacent to the Chassagne-Montrachet border and just above the Premier Cru vineyard Beauregard. Its elevated position benefits from cool air descending through the nearby combe (dry valley) as well as the moderating influence of the Bois Dessus forest, creating a longer growing season that preserves freshness and aromatic complexity. Predominantly Oxfordian limestone soils provide exceptional drainage while imparting the pronounced mineral character that has become the hallmark of this vineyard. The combination of site, exposure, and limestone-rich soils consistently produces one of Santenay's most distinguished expressions of Chardonnay.
Winemaking: The Chardonnay grapes are harvested by hand before being gently pressed and allowed to settle naturally prior to fermentation. Fermentation takes place in a combination of temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and French oak barrels, preserving vibrant fruit while building texture and complexity. The wine is then aged for approximately twelve months in French oak, with only 20–25% new barrels used to complement rather than dominate the fruit. This measured approach allows the vineyard's limestone-driven minerality and natural freshness to remain at the forefront, producing a Chardonnay that balances richness, precision, and remarkable elegance.
Technical Details: Santenay Blanc AOC; 100% Chardonnay; lieu-dit Clos de la Comme Dessus; vineyard located near the Chassagne-Montrachet border above Premier Cru Beauregard; Oxfordian limestone soils; hand harvested; fermented in stainless steel and French oak; aged approximately 12 months in French oak with 20–25% new barrels; sustainably farmed.
Food Pairing: Grilled lobster, halibut, Dover sole, roasted chicken, turkey, veal, pork tenderloin, creamy mushroom risotto, pasta with cream sauces, Comté, Gruyère, and aged goat cheeses. Its combination of ripe citrus, yellow stone fruit, vibrant acidity, and pronounced mineral tension makes it equally compelling as an aperitif or paired with refined seafood and classic Burgundian cuisine.
