Ghislaine Barthod 2022
Domaine Ghislaine Barthod is one of the benchmark producers of Chambolle-Musigny. The estate is relatively small, with just over 5.5 hectares of prime vineyards and no Grand Cru holdings, which makes the wines all the more coveted. It is the kind of domaine where I always wish I had more to offer.
What I admire most is the clarity of style. The purity of fruit is front and center, allowing each site to express its sense of place without distraction. In my experience, the wines can be structured and reserved in their youth, but with time they unfold beautifully, gaining subtlety, nuance, and a seamless elegance. Those are exactly the qualities that draw serious collectors to Chambolle-Musigny in the first place.
This is an outstanding set of 2022’s that should not be missed. Wines arriving from Europe late Spring 2026.
A subtle but not invisible application of wood sets off cool aromas of plum, violet and a blend of red and dark currant. The succulent, round and plump middleweight flavors that possess good richness and solid volume, all wrapped in a dusty, serious and notably firmer finale. This is also a very fine example of the genre also worth your attention.

A slightly riper yet airy mix features notes of red and dark pinot fruit, earth and a relatively broad array of spice and floral nuances. The delicious, delicious and generously proportioned medium-bodied flavors also conclude in a dusty, sappy and solidly powerful finish that goes on and on. This could use more depth but given how this is built, that should reasonably occur in time.

A pretty, airy and decidedly cool yet ripe nose consists of dark cherry, raspberry, red currant and softly spicy aromas. The palate impression manages to be at once seductive yet powerful with its larger-bodied flavors that possess excellent density, all wrapped in a youthfully austere, mouthcoating and strikingly long finish. This is robust and serious and a wine that will also need considerable patience.

A wonderfully fresh and ripe nose is comprised by notes of red and blue pinot fruit, spice and pretty floral wisps. There is more size and weight to the rich and succulent medium-bodied flavors that coat the palate with sappy dry extract that also buffers the firm tannic spine shaping the impressively persistent, well-balanced and solidly powerful finish. This is qualitatively similar to the Charmes but offers a markedly different expression.
