Notes:
Producer: Domaine Gaston & Pierre Ravaut is a fifth-generation family estate based in Ladoix-Serrigny, where the Ravaut family has been crafting wines since the late nineteenth century. Today, brothers Vincent and Jérôme Ravaut continue the domaine's tradition, farming approximately 17 hectares across some of the Côte de Beaune's finest appellations, including Ladoix, Aloxe-Corton, Corton Grand Cru, and Corton-Charlemagne. In recent years, the family has embraced sustainable viticulture while refining their cellar practices to produce wines of greater purity and finesse. Their Bourgogne Côte d'Or Rouge reflects the same philosophy found in their top crus, offering an authentic expression of Pinot Noir from one of Burgundy's most respected family domaines.
Vineyard: The fruit for this Bourgogne Côte d'Or Rouge comes from estate vineyards located at the foot of the Côte de Beaune escarpment surrounding Ladoix-Serrigny. These limestone, marl, and clay-rich soils provide excellent drainage while encouraging deep root systems, producing Pinot Noir with freshness, balance, and mineral character. Situated just below several village and Premier Cru vineyards, these parcels benefit from the same favorable exposures and cool continental climate that have made this corner of Burgundy famous. The Bourgogne Côte d'Or appellation was created to distinguish wines sourced exclusively from the Côte d'Or, offering greater pedigree and terroir expression than broader regional Bourgogne bottlings.
Winemaking: Grapes are harvested entirely by hand before careful sorting and gentle fermentation to preserve freshness and aromatic purity. The wine is aged for approximately 10 to 12 months in French oak barrels, where it develops additional texture while maintaining the bright fruit and energy characteristic of Pinot Noir. Ravaut favors a restrained approach to extraction and élevage, allowing the vineyard to remain the focal point rather than excessive oak influence. The result is a Burgundy that captures the domaine's signature style—vibrant, balanced, and approachable in its youth while possessing the structure to develop additional complexity over the next several years.
Technical Details: Bourgogne Côte d'Or AOC; 100% Pinot Noir; estate-grown fruit from vineyards surrounding Ladoix-Serrigny; limestone, marl, and clay soils; hand harvested; fermented using traditional Burgundian methods; aged approximately 10–12 months in French oak barrels; sustainably farmed; crafted to highlight freshness, balance, and terroir expression.
Food Pairing: Roast chicken, grilled pork tenderloin, duck breast, coq au vin, beef bourguignon, mushroom risotto, roast turkey, charcuterie, and semi-firm cheeses such as Comté or Tomme de Savoie. The wine's bright red cherry fruit, subtle floral aromatics, silky tannins, and lively acidity make it exceptionally versatile at the table.
