Notes:
- Producer: Franck Pascal is regarded as one of Champagne's true pioneers of biodynamic viticulture. After taking over his family's estate in Baslieux-sous-Châtillon in 1994, Pascal and his wife, Isabelle, began questioning conventional farming and gradually converted the estate to biodynamics, receiving certification in 2006. Today the domaine farms approximately 7 hectares in the Vallée de la Marne without herbicides, pesticides, or synthetic fertilizers, believing that healthy soils produce wines with greater purity, energy, and transparency. In the cellar, intervention is kept to an absolute minimum: native yeasts, restrained sulfur use, long lees aging, and little to no dosage allow each cuvée to faithfully express its vineyard origins. Franck Pascal has become one of Champagne's benchmark artisanal growers, producing wines that are admired for their precision, vitality, and unmistakable sense of place.
- Vineyard: Fluence is sourced from estate vineyards throughout the Vallée de la Marne, where clay and limestone soils provide both generosity and mineral freshness. The current release is composed primarily of Pinot Meunier (approximately 60–69%), complemented by Pinot Noir (26–34%) and a small proportion of Chardonnay (6–19%), depending on the base blend. The dominance of Meunier gives the wine its generous orchard fruit and supple texture, while Pinot Noir contributes structure and Chardonnay adds lift and precision. Every parcel is farmed biodynamically, with an emphasis on living soils and naturally balanced vines that consistently produce fruit of remarkable purity.
- Winemaking: Fermentation is carried out using indigenous yeasts with a combination of stainless steel and neutral oak, preserving both freshness and texture without masking the character of the fruit. The wine undergoes extended lees aging of approximately 60 months, allowing complexity and a remarkably fine mousse to develop naturally. Bottled as a Brut Nature with zero dosage, Fluence relies entirely on the balance achieved in the vineyard rather than residual sugar. The result is a Champagne of exceptional clarity and tension, where notes of pear, citrus, hazelnut, brioche, and chalk are carried by vibrant acidity and a long saline finish.
- Technical Details: Champagne AOC; Non-Vintage Brut Nature; approximately 60–69% Pinot Meunier, 26–34% Pinot Noir, 6–19% Chardonnay (blend varies by release); Vallée de la Marne; certified biodynamic vineyards; indigenous yeast fermentation; partial neutral oak élevage; approximately 60 months sur lie; zero dosage; 12.5% alcohol; approximately 2,300 cases produced annually.
- Food Pairing: Fresh oysters, shellfish, sashimi, grilled langoustines, roast chicken, pork tenderloin, mushroom dishes, aged Comté, and washed-rind cheeses all pair beautifully with Fluence. The wine offers aromas of ripe pear, citrus peel, hazelnut, brioche, marzipan, and crushed chalk, leading to a palate that is energetic, dry, and remarkably precise. Its complete lack of dosage and vibrant mineral finish make it an outstanding aperitif while also giving it the structure to accompany an entire meal.
