Producer: Champagne Agrapart & Fils is a family-owned grower Champagne house based in Avize, in the heart of the Côte des Blancs. Established in the late nineteenth century, the estate is closely associated with Pascal Agrapart and his meticulous, vineyard-driven approach to Champagne. Today, the domaine farms approximately 12 hectares, with most of its vineyards situated in Grand Cru villages and planted to Chardonnay. Agrapart grows its own grapes rather than purchasing fruit, maintaining direct control over vineyard management, harvesting, and winemaking. The estate emphasizes healthy soils through regular plowing and the application of locally produced compost. Its Champagnes are bottled without fining or filtration and are traditionally riddled by hand. These practices have helped establish Agrapart as one of the most respected growers in the Côte des Blancs.
Vineyard: “Terroirs” is a 100% Chardonnay Blanc de Blancs sourced exclusively from selected Grand Cru parcels in Avize, Cramant, Oiry, and Oger. These four villages occupy different positions along the Côte des Blancs, where chalk-rich soils play a defining role in the character of the wines. Rather than expressing a single vineyard, Terroirs brings together several of the estate's Grand Cru sites to capture a broader picture of the region. The combination offers the mineral precision, freshness, and depth associated with Chardonnay grown on the limestone and chalk formations of the Côte des Blancs. Each parcel is cultivated and harvested by the domaine, with vineyard work focused on maintaining soil health and preserving the character of the individual sites.
Winemaking: The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully pressed before fermentation with indigenous yeasts. For the Base 2020 bottling, portions of the wine are raised in stainless steel, while a smaller percentage matures in older oak vessels, adding texture without a pronounced oak character. The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and extended aging on its lees before disgorgement. Agrapart avoids fining and filtration, preserving the wine's natural texture and expression. The Extra Brut dosage keeps the finished Champagne dry and focused, allowing the Chardonnay's citrus character, chalky minerality, and underlying richness to remain at the forefront. The result is a Champagne that combines the depth of mature reserve wines with the freshness and precision of the Côte des Blancs.
Technical Details: Terroirs is classified as Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut and is made entirely from estate-grown Chardonnay. The cuvée is non-vintage, with the 2020 harvest identified as the base for this release.
Food Pairing: The wine's freshness, mineral character, and fine mousse make it a natural match for oysters, scallops, and other shellfish. Its Chardonnay richness also works beautifully with lobster, delicate white fish, or simply prepared poultry. The dry finish and chalky acidity provide a particularly appealing contrast to richer dishes, including seafood served with butter-based sauces.
