A slightly riper nose features notes of poached plum, discreet spice and a plethora of floral elements, especially violet, lilac and rose petal. The broad-shouldered flavors are rich to the point of opulence while coating the palate with sappy dry extract on the hugely long, balanced and even firmer finale where a touch of bitter chocolate eventually appears. This is a big but harmonious wine that could probably be approached after 10-ish years or so. In a word, terrific. Burghound 93-96

The 2023 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru is shaping up brilliantly, unfurling in the glass with aromas of cherries and mulberries mingled with blood orange, musky spices and rose petals. Full-bodied, cool and layered, it's rich but mineral, with an enveloping core of fruit, lively acids and sweet, powdery tannins. As ever, this is a broad-shouldered wine, but it remains impeccably balanced. William Kelley 96-98
