Producer: Domaine Digioia-Royer was founded in 2000 by Carole Digioia and Christophe Royer, based in Nuits-Saint-Georges. Christophe Royer is known for meticulous vineyard work, severe yield control, and a hands-on approach that has earned the domaine a strong following among Burgundy collectors despite its relatively small size. The estate farms approximately 5 hectares, primarily in Nuits-Saint-Georges and the surrounding Côte de Nuits.
Vineyard: This wine comes from a single 0.51-hectare parcel in Concoeur, a village situated above Nuits-Saint-Georges at approximately 350 meters elevation. The vineyard was planted in 1967 and 1968 and benefits from the cooler temperatures and longer growing season typical of the Hautes-Côtes. The higher elevation helps preserve acidity and freshness while producing wines with excellent aromatic lift.
Winemaking: Produced from 100% Pinot Noir, the fruit is fully destemmed and fermented with indigenous yeasts. The wine is aged for approximately 12 months in French oak barrels, with about 20% new oak, before blending and bottling. The approach emphasizes purity of fruit and vineyard expression rather than heavy extraction or oak influence.
Appellation: Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits is sourced from vineyards located on the plateau and slopes west of the Côte de Nuits escarpment. The cooler climate and higher elevations often produce wines with bright acidity, freshness, and classic Pinot Noir character.
Food Pairing: Roast chicken, pork tenderloin, duck breast, grilled salmon, mushroom risotto, veal, and charcuterie. The wine's combination of fresh acidity and moderate tannin makes it particularly versatile at the table.
