Reduction blocks all but subtle floral nuances from piercing the funk. By contrast, there is a lovely underlying tension to the well-detailed and stony flavors that possess slightly better volume on the firm, dusty and bitter pit fruit-inflected finish that offers just a bit more depth and persistence. Note that at least some patience will be necessary. Burghound 90-92 Outstanding!

Producer: Domaine Jean Fournier was founded in the 1960s and is currently run by Laurent Fournier, the third generation of the family. The estate farms approximately 16 hectares, almost entirely within Marsannay. Organic farming practices were introduced in 2003, with official certification achieved in 2008. Fournier is considered one of the leading specialists of Marsannay and bottles numerous individual climats to showcase the diversity of the appellation.
Vineyard: Les Longeroies is located on the southern end of Marsannay near Chenôve and covers approximately 33 hectares. The vineyard sits at elevations ranging from roughly 270 to 320 meters and features soils composed of limestone, marl, and iron-rich clay. It is one of the most highly regarded sites in the appellation and is among the vineyards that have been proposed for elevation in classification discussions.
Winemaking: The 2022 is produced from 100% Pinot Noir sourced from multiple parcels within Les Longeroies, including vines ranging from approximately 10 to 70 years of age. Harvesting is performed entirely by hand. Fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts, and depending on the vintage, Fournier incorporates varying levels of whole clusters. The wine is aged for approximately 16-18 months in French oak barrels with a limited percentage of new oak to preserve vineyard character.
Food Pairing: Pairs well with duck confit, roast chicken, pork tenderloin, grilled lamb, beef bourguignon, mushroom-based dishes, and semi-firm Alpine cheeses. The combination of Pinot Noir fruit, bright acidity, and moderate tannin also makes it an excellent match for dishes featuring herbs, root vegetables, and earthy flavors.
