Domaine Michel Gay & Fils is a family-owned estate based in Chorey-lès-Beaune, with roots that stretch back more than a century in the Côte de Beaune. The modern domaine was established in 1992 when Michel Gay and his brother divided the family holdings, and today the estate is run by fifth-generation winemaker Sébastien Gay, who has steadily elevated quality through lower yields, longer élevage, and meticulous vineyard work.
The Beaune 1er Cru Les Toussaints vineyard occupies a privileged mid-slope position on the Beaune hillside at approximately 240 meters in elevation. Located between the renowned Premier Crus Grèves and Cent Vignes, Les Toussaints benefits from a southeast-facing exposure that captures ample sunlight while maintaining freshness and balance. Its position consistently produces wines that combine generosity with refinement.
The vineyard is planted to Vieilles Vignes, with many vines between 50 and 60 years old. These mature vines naturally produce lower yields and smaller berries, concentrating flavor and structure while preserving the elegance for which Beaune is known. Old vines are particularly valuable in warmer vintages, helping maintain balance and complexity in the finished wine.
Les Toussaints is distinguished by its clay-rich ferruginous limestone soils resting over a limestone bedrock. Compared with neighboring Grèves, the soils here are deeper, resulting in wines with a rounder texture and more supple tannins. This terroir produces Pinot Noir that emphasizes charm and accessibility without sacrificing depth or aging potential.
