Rich and expansive, with superb balance, the 2017 captures the natural power of this site while also capturing quite a lot of finesse, which is not easy here. “This estate is based in Santa Maria di La Morra (in the Barolo appellation), although one of its historic vineyard holdings is located in the adjacent Barbaresco appellation. The Figli Luigi Oddero 2017 Barbaresco Rombone draws its fruit from a 2.5-hectare site in Treiso at an ideal 290 meters above sea level. The wine presents a pretty, open-knit bouquet with dark berry fruit, crushed flowers, tar and some dusty-earthy aromas. Licorice-like aromas also stand out. The tannins are well played in this warm vintage and appear well integrated into the fiber of the wine. Some 8,000 bottles will hit the market in October 2020.”
