Producer: Françoise Bedel is one of Champagne's pioneers of biodynamic viticulture. The family estate farms approximately 8.4 hectares in the western Vallée de la Marne, with vineyards spread across Crouttes-sur-Marne, Nanteuil-sur-Marne, Charly-sur-Marne, and Villiers-Saint-Denis. Biodynamic farming has been practiced across the entire estate since 1998 and certified through Biodyvin.
Vineyard & Blend: L'Âme de la Terre is the domaine's vintage Champagne and is produced from a selection of the estate's best parcels. The 2010 vintage is composed of 90% Chardonnay, 5% Pinot Meunier, and 5% Pinot Noir, sourced from clay, marl, limestone, and sandstone soils in the Vallée de la Marne. Yields in 2010 were reduced significantly due to botrytis pressure, resulting in a smaller but highly concentrated crop.
Winemaking: Fermented in a combination of enameled tanks and oak barrels, the wine underwent extended aging on its lees for approximately 10 years before disgorgement. The Champagne was released as Extra Brut with 3.45 g/L dosage, allowing the vineyard character and vintage expression to remain at the forefront.
