Notes:
Here there is very strong reduction as well. The very rich, dense, serious and brooding medium-bodied flavors possess a velvety mouth feel as there is a plenitude of dry extract that coats the palate on the complex, long and somewhat toasty finish. This is more firmly structured than the Beaux Monts and will require a few more years of cellar time to arrive at its peak. Burghound 90-92
Producer note: Alain Meunier describes the 2010 vintage as one with a "challenging growing season. In certain vineyards such as the Bourgogne and Côte de Nuits-Villages we were hit hard by the frosts, which diminished yields and then the flowering was disrupted which further disrupted yields. In fact, all told we were down some 30% in quantity yet in a way, it was a blessing because the fruit would have never ripened as the summer weather wasn't much better. The poor weather pretty much stayed that way until the 12th of September and then suddenly, it was perfect. We began picking on the 23rd of September and brought in very clean fruit that required very little in the way of sorting and possessed fine potential alcohols at between 12.5 and 13.5% so I chaptalized almost nothing. It was quite cold during the harvest so the fermentations took a day or two longer than usual to get going, which is fine as I believe that a natural cool maceration is the best kind. The malos were long for the same reason as the cellars chilled earlier than usual and by the time we racked out of the fermenters the ambient temperatures had fallen. All told we realized only 28 hl/ha but the quality is excellent. In terms of style, the 2010s remind me of the 2006s or the 2008s but with more flesh." As to the now in-bottle '09s, they have largely performed in line with my original reviews and several of them are particularly lovely.
