Notes:
Allen Meadows' Burghound, Jan 2011
(Note: from .87 ha parcel planted in 1928.) Soft floral notes add nuance and breadth to the ripe and pretty red berry fruit and earth aromas that precede the powerful, concentrated and focused middle weight plus flavors that culminate in a balanced, focused and beautifully precise finish. This also displays plenty of underlying tension and there is a lovely sense of overall harmony here. 91-93 points and Outstanding!
John Gilman's View from the Cellar, Nov/Dec 2010
The 2009 Combes aux Moines is an absolute classic in the making. The bouquet is deep, pure and utterly refined, as it wafts from the glass in a blend of red and black cherries, grilled meat, Gevreys black minerality, woodsmoke, espresso, mustard seed and a touch of cedary wood. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, pure and structured, with a fine core of fruit, ripe tannins, lovely acidity and excellent length and grip on the pure and fairly primary finish. A superb bottle. 94 points.
