View From the Cellar,
The 2008 Charmes-Chambertin from the Rotys is a humbling, profound and beautiful wine. The flat out brilliant nose soars from the glass in a complex and absolutely elegant mélange of red and black cherries, a touch of blood orange, grilled meats, bacon fat, profound soil tones, coffee, fresh herbs and new wood. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very refined on the attack, with amazing mid-palate depth, ripe tannins, tangy acids and amazing intensity of flavor on the beautifully soil-driven and complex finish. An utterly stunning Roty Charmes! (Drink between 2022-2075) 97points

Burghound, January 2011, Issue #41
A pungent mix of wood spice, earth, red berry fruit, game, smoke and an interesting menthol note highlights the moderately animale character of the rich, full, refined and pure broad-shouldered flavors underpinned by ripe and very firm tannins that culminate in a moderately austere and still very backward finish. This will require moderate cellar time to be at its best, which at this early stage I would estimate at 12 to 15 years. (Drink starting 2020)93points

Medium red. Closed but pure nose offers dark berries, minerals, flowers, iron and tobacco. Dense, silky and sweet, with terrific floral lift to the middle palate. A wonderfully aromatic, floral midweight of great finesse. Best today on the very long, subtle finish, which lingers with cherry, spices and flowers. This should evolve at a snail's pace. 94 points
