A discreet touch of wood frames strikingly complex, ripe, fresh and quite densely fruited earth suffused red pinot aromas that lead to rich, full-bodied and textured flavors that exude an overt muscularity on the equally explosive finish where the integrated tannins confer a dusty mouth feel to the moderately austere finale. This is an extremely impressive effort but note that even more patience will be required. Burghound 94

Producer note: Etienne Grivot describes 2008 as a vintage that had an "early start tothe vegetative cycle. April, May and most of June were good if not perfectthough July and August were pretty much terrible and good weather did notreturn until the middle of September. Then, with cool but sunny weatherand the north wind, maturities exploded, the rot dried up and this shortperiod frankly saved the harvest. We had already done leaf pulling on thenorth side of the vines so the wind was doubly effective as stopping therot in its tracks as well as causing damaged berries to fall to the ground. We began picking on the 24th of September and lost between 5 and 15%through sorting, depending of course on the vineyard in question. Grapematurities varied but if you did a thorough sorting job and had reasonableyields, what remained was actually quite ripe. I really like 2008, in factit reminds me of 1993 but with sweeter tannins. While it's too early tosay for sure, I am cautiously optimistic that 2008 could possibly be agreat vintage."
