This elegant vintage also revealed surprising ripeness, power, and richness because of the severe crop-thinning as well as the strict triage in the cellar. Displaying a personality similar to the 1999, but even richer, it may turn out to be the finest Northern Rhone I tasted. A brilliant wine boasting superb ripeness, loads of licorice-infused creme de cassis, and hints of rocks as well as flowers, this powerful, rich beauty should be cellared for 5-6 years, and drunk over the following two decades.
