Notes:
Producer note: Rgisseur (resident manager) Thierry Brouin told me that yields for the 2001 Clos des Lambrays were 37 hl/ha with sugars that came in between 11.8 and 12%. He plans to bottle in February, without fining or filtration. Brouin's view is that 2000 is similar to 1992 whereas 2001 is a hypothetical blend of 1995 and 1998. I also had the opportunity to reexamine the Domaine's 1999s and while the Morey "1er" has tightened up, it otherwise showed almost exactly the same as one year ago. By contrast, the Clos des Lambrays has added weight and depth and I have slightly upgraded my view of it.
Tasting note: This is a clear step up with much tighter, more concentrated and reserved fruit and deep, rich, mineral-laden flavors that display superb acid/fruit/tannin balance plus an impressive, and beautifully focused, long finish. Powerful, long and this is extremely pretty. 92 points
