Notes:
While it's not quite as ripe, the expressive nose reminds more than a little of the brilliant '99 with its smoke, underbrush and still notably primary fruit that slides gracefully into concentrated yet precise and very powerful mouth coating flavors that also brim with ample amounts of dry extract, all underpinned by firm but integrated tannins on the gorgeously long finish. This is a first rate '98 that doesn't quite have the sheer depth of its '99 counterpart but I would be more than happy to drink this anytime and in concert with the '99, this too is very much still on the way up.
