Article: Rousseau | Coche

Rousseau | Coche
Today's offer includes two of the finest names in Burgundy, Armand Rousseau and Coche Dury. I usually don’t like making an offer for just a couple of bottles, but in todays world this is about all we really get our hands on. The Coche arrives next week - the Rousseau will arrive over the Summer. Two great additions to any cellar.

A more elegant and not quite as ripe nose features aromas of Granny Smith apple, acacia blossom, spice and just sliced lemon rind. As is usually the case, the middle weight flavors aren't as dense or powerful but they are both finer and more mineral-driven, while delivering outstanding length for a villages-level wine on the bone-dry finish that is borderline tannic. This is, texturally speaking, completely different from the Enseignères and should age just as gracefully.

Moderate though hardly invisible wood and menthol notes stop just short of dominating the liqueur-like aromas of red and dark currant, plum, just turned earth and old leather wisps. There is excellent volume and richness to the equally sleek and beautifully concentrated flavors that possess evident power and a taut muscularity on the lingering, complex, youthfully austere and impeccably well-balanced finish. This overtly mineral-driven effort is a wine of power and grace that should also amply reward extended keeping.

Ripe and exceptionally fresh aromas of poached plum, violet, wood toast and spice give way to gorgeously textured, sappy and impressively powerful larger-bodied flavors that exhibit simply stunning length on the balanced and only moderately austere finale. This is seriously good though quite firm and in contrast to several of the prior wines, one that's going to need at least a decade of keeping first.
