LATOUR GIRAUD 2023


These wines have quietly built a cult following over the last 15 years. Jean-Pierre Latour farms organically, keeps yields tight (in the 25-35 hectoliter range), and ferments using only free-run juice with wild yeasts. These practices have paid off, especially in vintages like 2023. His holdings include top-tier parcels in Perrières, Genevrières, Charmes, and Champs Canet (Puligny side), and he has continued to elevate quality through serious investment in the winery.


The 2023s reflect a winemaker and estate at the peak of their powers. These are full-throttle, classically styled white Burgundies—rich, tactile, intensely mineral—and yet graceful and precise. If you haven't discovered Latour Giraud yet, you’re overdue, and this vintage couldn’t be a better introduction!

 “Here too there is a smoky character to the cool and pure aromas of Granny Smith apple, white flower, lemon zest and wet stone nuances. There is even better volume to the concentrated, even powerful, larger-scaled flavors that also brim with minerality on the lemony, bone dry and youthfully austere finale. This is excellent for its level though note that it's sufficiently compact to need at least a few years of keeping first.”

 “A naturally exotic nose of jasmine tea, gardenia, smoked apple and a variety of citrus nuances. There is fine volume to the super-sleek and strikingly textured medium weight flavors that exude an appealing bead of minerality on the lightly austere and wonderfully persistent finish that is also impeccably well-balanced. Excellent.”

“Mid yellow, with a really beautiful succulent nose, picked at perfect ripeness, and not hiding the delicacy and detail of fine Genevrières. Some lime, some verbena, delicate fresh apples, back to the lime blossom, then a really fine boned framework on the palate. Tingles the tastebuds in the most delicious way. A beautifully crafted 2023 Genevrières. Drink from 2029–2037.”

2023 Latour Giraud Meursault 1er Cru Perrières

“Cooler aromas include those of Granny Smith apple, plenty of mineral reduction, citrus confit and a plethora of floral nuances. There is again excellent volume to the equally sleek and beautifully delineated middle weight flavors where the stoniness is borderline aggressive on the equally bone-dry, youthfully austere and strikingly persistent finale. This is also first-rate with the development potential to match.”

“Mid lemon yellow, the weight and the sumptuous feel are certainly present. This is plump but within its corsets—ripe pears, a little citrus wash, plenty of weight. Good acidity, a certain crunchiness. Not quite so in place today as the Genevrières and with a little more warmth at the back, but Perrières majesty is certainly present. Drink from 2030–2038.”

“There is a hint of phenolic character suffusing the ripe and vaguely exotic aromas of white and yellow fruit, orange peel, fennel and a wonderful array of floral nuances. There is outstanding volume to the solidly concentrated, rich and powerful yet displaying the natural class of a fine Puligny, all wrapped in a mouth coating, moderately dry and sneaky long finale. This could use more depth so plan on at least a few years of keeping.”

“Mid lemon yellow. Nutty, sunny, still fine, less power. You can tell this needed to be picked at the start, as the acidity though still correct is less evident. The vines are on SO4 rootstock, which encourages early ripening. Rays of sunshine across the palate, and Puligny delicacy. Drink from 2028–2034.”
