Lamy 2024
Anyone who knows me knows how much I love Olivier Lamy's wines. He not only put Saint-Aubin on the map, but over the course of the last twenty years he has become one of the most respected vignerons in all of Burgundy. His unrelenting attention to detail and forward-thinking approach to viticulture have earned him the respect of his peers.
I've followed his journey for as long as I've been going to Burgundy. I used to love those days in the cellar when it was just a handful of us. Olivier was always so generous with his time, explaining his process with such passion and precision. I remember having a hard time grasping the concept of planting a vine in the middle of the row—it was completely unheard of at the time. By creating competition among the vines through higher-density planting, it was a philosophy that made sense to Olivier long before most people were talking about it. Those vines are now maturing, and the results speak for themselves.
We've added a few more of the 2024s since our first offer, and we now have a much broader look at the range. Les Chataigniers gives us another look at Lamy's work, while Derrière Chez Edouard joins the Saint-Aubin Premier Crus. At the other end is Derrière Chez Edouard Haute Densité, one of the wines that brings Olivier's work with high-density planting full circle.
As has been the case for the last three or four years, Olivier is showing only finished wine in bottle to journalists these days. We probably won't see reviews of the 2024s until many of those same journalists are writing about the 2025s next year. Quite frankly, these wines don't need reviews—they speak for themselves.
The cool growing season of 2024 should align perfectly with the linear, precise style that defines Domaine Lamy. Quantities are down drastically from last year, and as always, the top cuvées tend to disappear first.
Buy these with confidence. They are going to be tremendous.
