Article: Bachey legros Maranges 2023

Bachey legros Maranges 2023
I’ve been waiting for another reason to put Bachey-Legros back in front of you. We usually find ourselves talking about their whites, but their Maranges has become a bit of an exception. After how much I liked the last vintage, I was eager to see what they had done with 2023. It didn’t take long for this one to win me over.
The 2023 is another stunning example of what great vignerons do from terroirs that many of you are not familiar with. Excellent depth and concentration with flavors of black cherry and raspberry at the center, then violet, spice and a savory edge coming through as it opens. The tannins are polished and finely drawn, giving the wine a smoothness and balance that makes it extremely pleasurable in its youth.
There’s also a little more specificity behind this bottle than the Maranges Viilles Vignes we offered the last couple of years. This one comes from a lieu-dit (single vineyard) Le Goty, also old vines, and it’s a pretty remarkable little piece of ground. Bachey-Legros farms just half a hectare here, with Pinot Noir planted in 1945 and rows that run right up against Santenay Charmes. Nearly 80-year-old vines, a tiny parcel, and that proximity to Santenay give you a pretty good idea of where some of that character comes from. This is a serious wine in so many ways.
A lot of you followed me into Maranges with the previous vintages, and this 2023 gives me even more reason to keep beating the drum. There aren’t many places left in Burgundy where you can still buy this quality at a price under $50. I love finding these types of wines, no reviews, old vine sappyness, with excellent depth and balance. This drinks now, but if you can find a way to keep your hands off for a couple of years I know you are going to be really impressed.
And just like last time, it comes with my 100% Money Back Guarantee. Buy more than you think you need, you can thank me later.
