Domaine Ravaut Ladoix “les Carrieres”
Fifteen years ago, there would have been no chance of me whole-heartedly recommending a wine from Ladoix. Nor would you have ordered all I had and called me for a reload…but that’s the crazy world we’re living in now! I’m happy to say I can oblige your requests….I managed to pry another 10cs from the importer.
If you haven’t been so bold yet, this wine will completely change your perception of what you might expect from Ladoix. 2022 Domaine Ravaut Ladoix “les Carrieres, is a Lieu-dits (single vineyard village wine) but has more in common with the 1er crus than any village wine I have tasted. Climate change has been beneficial for Ladoix, as it has allowed these old vineyards an easier opportunity to reach maturity, resulting in wines that are more fruit forward. Back in the day, the wines were rustic and quite frankly they were hard to even drink. I remember driving out of Beaune with one of my suppliers in 2010 and asking if there was anything worthwhile in Ladoix as we passed the sign from the road. He had lived his entire life in Burgundy and replied, “I wouldn’t know, I’ve never stopped.
I do more than stop these days, these are the kinds of wines for which I search. They are well made with appealing fruit and texture, not overly expensive but still delivering that Burgundy experience you get from the sexy appellations. It's the kind of wine every Burgundy lover needs to have on hand, while more prized possessions age gracefully in the cellar. Red and black fruits are easy to identify from the very giving nose. In the mouth, the wine offers medium weight density that expands on the mid palate and coats your entire mouth with a seamless texture. It’s an easy wine to drink and hard to put down - quite impressive for a wine at this price point. I love the pop and pour quality this one delivers now, but with a couple of years this one is going to make you look like a genius. But can keep your hands off it!?
Grab some of this before it disappears again - there is no more after this. You can thank me later as this is dynamite!
