2022 Domaine Jomain
On the main square in Puligny Montrachet, next door to the famous Le Montrachet restaurant, known for the best escargot in Burgundy, unassumingly lives Domaine Jomain. I’ve missed it for years.
It's a decent sized estate at 9 hectares in size, producing a wide range of wines from Aligote to Batard Montrachet. I got a chance to visit the cellars in 2021 and to taste through the entire range, which allowed me to pinpoint the two stars of the cellar; in my opinion the Bourgogne Cote D’Or Chardonnay and the Meursault Tillets stand head and shoulders above the rest of the lineup.
This is a property we have been quietly selling since the 2018 vintage. For our collective pocketbook’s sake, I’m happy this estate gets zero press, resulting in a high quality/price ratio!

The Bourgogne Cote de Or is exactly what you seek as a Burgundy buyer. The citrus leaning nose, expansive mouthfeel, mineral driven mid palate and lip smacking finish is a white Burgundy dream. For an everyday Chardonnay, you never be mad at this one, especially at $29/btl. For those looking for an elevated white Burgundy experience this is a gem - scoop up a case!

Meursault Tillets is a bit more serious, although only considered a village level wine, it has more in common with the 1er crus. This is a very well-sited lieu-dits with vines growing in thin rocky soils, at 300 meters, almost the highest elevation of the Meursault appellation. All this is evident on the lifted, rather energetic, even nervous experience with a rich and mouth coating finish. It's a wine that makes you look into your glass after you have had a sip and sigh, “WOW!”
Take this to your next blind tasting - nobody will ever guess it’s a village wine!
