Denante Saint Veran

You all know one of the things I find most satisfying is being able to bring you white Burgundy that delivers that magical balance of freshness, purity, and energy, without the lofty price tags. That’s exactly what we have today with Domaine de la Denante’s Saint-Véran 2023.

I offered this back in September to a very strong response. We sold 25+ cases on the first offer. Since then, a number of you have come back to tell me how much you enjoyed the wine.

I always tell you I don’t just sell the wines, I’m always looking for stuff I can take home and enjoy myself.

I brought a case of this wine home in December. I poured it for friends, took it to a couple of parties, and more than anything, consumed a number of bottles myself. In fact, I’m sipping a glass of it as I write this email. The one thing I can tell you, now well into my second case, is that there is not a better wine for the money.

Grown on classic argilo-calcareous soils in the southern Mâconnais, this 100% Chardonnay sees eight months of aging on fine lees (50% stainless steel, 50% barrel), giving it terrific texture and vibrant energy. Aromatically, it offers gorgeous floral notes, citrusy orchard fruit, and a hint of classic Burgundy petrol peeking through. The palate is succulent and medium-weight, with a beautifully dry, youthfully austere finish that is exactly what I look for in white Burgundy.

Here’s the crazy part: it’s only $25. I almost priced it at $30 because I know some of you are thinking, how good can a $25 wine be? Trust me, you’re getting serious white Burgundy character here: mineral soil expression, finesse, freshness, and structure.

These are exactly the kinds of wines I love bringing you, authentic, delicious, and priced so you can drink them any night of the week. This has become my go-to house wine. I always have a bottle in the fridge. And what I really love is that even if you forget to put the cork back in, it’s still banging on day two.
