Antoine Bouvet Champagne

Each new release seems to disappear a little faster than the last. Part of that comes down to the tiny quantities he produces, but I think it has even more to do with the philosophy behind the wines. Rather than building his range around a recognizable house style, Antoine has focused on bottling individual villages, vineyards, and grape varieties whenever possible. Single-village, terroir-specific bottlings has been the subtle shift designed to make each cuvee reflect its identity, allowing the nuances of place to remain at the forefront rather than being blended into a uniform style. 

This philosophy begins in the vineyard. Working with just a few hectares of Premier Cru vineyards in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, Bisseuil, and Avenay-Val-d'Or, every parcel is farmed individually, harvested by hand, and vinified separately. Fermentations rely on indigenous yeasts, the wines are aged in neutral French oak barrels, and extended time on the lees builds texture without masking the character of the fruit. Every decision in the cellar is made with restraint, allowing the vineyard—not the winemaking—to define the finished wine.

The result is a collection of Champagnes that each carry their own personality. Chardonnay from Avenay-Val-d'Or speaks differently than Pinot Noir from Mareuil-sur-Aÿ or Bisseuil, and that's exactly the point. Rather than smoothing over those distinctions, Antoine embraces them, producing wines that are as much about their origin as they are about the craftsmanship behind them.

Once you've tasted through the range, it's easy to understand why these wines have developed such a devoted following among our clients. Each bottle offers a different perspective on Champagne while remaining unmistakably connected by the same careful farming and thoughtful winemaking.
