Notes:
- Producer: Maison Ruinart was founded in 1729, making it the oldest established Champagne house. Based in Reims and now part of LVMH, Ruinart has become synonymous with Chardonnay-driven Champagnes and remains one of the benchmark Grandes Marques of the region.
- Vineyard & Blend: R de Ruinart is sourced from 40-50 different crus across the Côte des Blancs and Montagne de Reims. The blend is typically composed of 40-45% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay, and 10-15% Pinot Meunier, supplemented by 20-30% reserve wines from previous vintages to maintain consistency.
- Winemaking: Grapes are harvested by hand and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine undergoes full malolactic fermentation, spends 2-3 years aging on its lees, and is bottled with a dosage of approximately 7 g/L. The finished wine carries 12.5% alcohol.
- Technical Details: Champagne AOC, Non-Vintage Brut, 40-50 crus in the blend, 20-30% reserve wines, 2-3 years cellar aging, 7 g/L dosage, 12% alcohol. Ruinart's historic chalk cellars ("Les Crayères"), acquired in 1768, extend roughly 38 meters underground and are recognized as a historic monument.
- Food Pairing: Oysters, scallops, sole meunière, lobster, sushi, goat cheese, vegetable-based dishes, and light poultry preparations. The combination of Chardonnay freshness and Pinot Noir structure makes it equally effective as an aperitif or at the table.
