Domaine Tempier is the undisputed cornerstone of Bandol, with a history stretching back to 1834 and Lucien Peyraud's pivotal role in establishing the appellation itself in 1941 — this is not just one of Provence's greatest rosés, it is the benchmark against which all others are measured.
Produced from a blend of roughly 50% Mourvèdre, 28% Grenache, 20% Cinsault, and 2% Carignan, farmed biodynamically on the terraced clay-limestone slopes between Marseille and Toulon — the Mourvèdre gives the wine its spine and complexity, while the Grenache and Cinsault bring the charm and lift that make it so irresistible young.
Fermented spontaneously with native yeasts in concrete tanks, then aged for six to eight months before bottling — no shortcuts, no shortcuts in the vineyard either. The result is a rosé of real density and textural presence: peach, nectarine, citrus zest, and wild herbs, all carried by a mouthwatering mineral salinity that is pure Bandol.
Unlike most Provençal rosés, Tempier ages beautifully and can show well for five or more years from vintage — but there's no reason to wait. Drink it cold, drink it often, and make sure you have more than one bottle on hand. This is the one we stock by the case every year without hesitation.
