Notes:
Producer: Domaine Maratray-Dubreuil is a family-owned estate based in Ladoix-Serrigny, where three generations of the Maratray family have quietly built a reputation for producing classical, terroir-driven Burgundies. Farming approximately 16 hectares across the Côte de Beaune, the estate's holdings range from regional appellations to Corton Grand Cru and Corton-Charlemagne. Rather than pursuing modern winemaking trends, the domaine remains committed to traditional Burgundian methods that emphasize balance, purity, and vineyard expression. Their rare monopole holdings are among the estate's greatest treasures, offering wines that cannot be replicated by any other producer.
Vineyard: En Naget is a Premier Cru monopole owned exclusively by Domaine Maratray-Dubreuil, making the estate the sole producer of this distinctive climat. Situated on the southeast-facing slopes of Ladoix, the vineyard is planted on classic marl and limestone soils that provide excellent drainage while contributing remarkable mineral tension and freshness. Its privileged hillside exposure encourages optimal ripening without sacrificing acidity, producing Chardonnay that combines richness with precision. As one of the domaine's signature white wines, En Naget beautifully demonstrates why Ladoix has become one of Burgundy's most compelling sources for value-driven white Burgundy.
Winemaking: Grapes are harvested entirely by hand before gentle pressing and traditional Burgundian vinification. Fermentation and élevage take place in French oak barrels, with approximately 20% new oak, allowing the wine to gain texture and complexity while preserving the purity of the fruit and the mineral expression of the vineyard. The restrained use of oak enhances rather than dominates the wine, resulting in a Chardonnay that balances white orchard fruit, citrus, and floral aromatics with the hallmark freshness and elegance of the Côte de Beaune. This thoughtful approach allows the unique personality of En Naget to remain the defining characteristic of the finished wine.
Technical Details: Ladoix Premier Cru AOC; climat En Naget; Monopole; 100% Chardonnay; southeast-facing Premier Cru vineyard; marl and limestone soils; hand harvested; fermented and aged for approximately 12 months in French oak barrels with roughly 20% new oak; crafted using traditional Burgundian methods to highlight freshness, minerality, and terroir expression.
Food Pairing: Butter-poached lobster, Dover sole, grilled halibut, roasted chicken, veal in cream sauce, mushroom risotto, roast pork, Comté, Gruyère, and aged goat cheeses. The wine's combination of citrus fruit, white flowers, vibrant acidity, and chalky minerality makes it equally suited to refined seafood dishes and classic Burgundian cuisine. While approachable in its youth, its balance and structure allow it to evolve beautifully over the next five to eight years.
