Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet is one of the rising stars of Burgundy's Côte de Nuits. The estate was formed when Amélie Berthaut united vineyards from her father's historic Berthaut family holdings in Fixin with part of her mother's Gerbet holdings in Vosne-Romanée. Today, she and her husband, renowned vigneron Nicolas Faure, have transformed the domaine into one of the most respected producers in the region, earning acclaim for wines that combine purity, precision, and terroir transparency.
Fixin sits immediately north of Gevrey-Chambertin and has long been considered one of Burgundy's hidden values. While often overshadowed by its famous neighbor, the village shares many of the same limestone-rich soils and cool-climate conditions that make the Côte de Nuits the spiritual home of Pinot Noir. The appellation is known for producing wines with vibrant acidity, floral aromatics, and a firm mineral backbone that often outperform their modest reputation.
The 2022 Fixin is a blend of fruit sourced from several village-level climats, including Clos de Fixey, Clos du Village, Aux Prés, La Sorgentière, and La Vionne, providing a broad expression of the appellation. By assembling fruit from multiple sites, Berthaut-Gerbet captures both the elegance and structure that define Fixin while maintaining impressive consistency from vintage to vintage.
The domaine has steadily increased its use of whole-cluster fermentation in recent years, a technique that enhances aromatic complexity, freshness, and texture. Combined with meticulous vineyard management and restrained oak usage, the result is a style that emphasizes energy and finesse rather than power. Critics have noted that the evolution of the winemaking program has played a major role in the estate's rapid rise in quality.
