The dynamic duo of brothers Nicolas and Julien Cheveau are running the show at Domaine Cheveau in the Maconnais and we have been consistently blown away by their wines since we were introduced to them two years ago. Domaine Cheveau is one of the most compelling and exciting producers in the Mâconnais: old vines in prime vineyard sites, sustainable viticulture, low yields, hand harvesting, spontaneous fermentations, and extended cellaring help set it apart from the ocean of Mâcon blanc coming from the region’s fertile plains. We have offered a few of their wines from the 2018 and 2019 vintage and they have all been homeruns. We pride ourselves in bringing you incredible values from Burgundy as we continue to look to the Macon and Chablis for those gems you can drink every day and stock up by the case at these “pop and pour” prices. Today’s wine, 2020 Cheveau’s Macon-Davayé is a brand-new arrival and yet another winner we scooped up. Made from a 2-acre parcel in the village of Davayé, called “Les Belouzes”, right on the border with Pouilly-Fuissé, it is fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks and left to age on the fine lees for 11 months. Planted in 2011, the vines are quite young, which is evident by this wine’s lively and relaxed personality. Still, there is a profound mineral streak in this wine matched with its rich tonality. And despite its incredible price quality ratio, only 100 cases of this wine make it to the US every year and we locked up a nice chunk.

A wine of great character and depth, right out of the gate the nose shows white fruits and floral bouquet with hints of fresh apple and pear. The palate feels round but clean with defined flavor and an underlying core of minerality, beautifully framed and balanced with lively acidity. It’s virtually impossible to find this much Burgundian pedigree and purity unless you are spending two to three times the price. The inventory of this limited release will not last long so grab your stash now and secure many days of drinking white Burgundy without breaking the bank!
