Claude Kolm 92-95
“Rust and blood aromas and flavors, along with dark fruit flavors, good structure for the vintage, long, pure, fresh.” (December, 2018)
Jasper Morris 90-93
“A holding of 1.08ha, harvested early in the cycle of the Cote de Nuits vineyards. Lively bright fresh purple and there is some energy to the dark fruit. Some new oak on the nose, but while the fruit is dark it avoids figs and mulberry. There is a whole rich mouthfeel of fruit here.” (November, 2018)
James Suckling 91-92
“Bouchard own one hectare of the total of three in this 1er Cru parcel, in the south of the appellation. The chalky soil delivers elegance here, with aromas of ripe dark cherries and a fragrant, expressive nose with a lot of violets (30-40 per cent whole clusters). The palate has a very smooth, supple and flavorful feel with some attractive compression of fine tannins. Long, rich dark-cherry finish. Drink in the first decade.” (January, 2019)
Vinous Media (Neal Martin) 92-94
“The 2017 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Cailles 1er Cru comes from a single hectare of vines. It has a crisp, precise bouquet, with delicate violet petals scents filtering through the black cherry and raspberry fruit. The palate is very well balanced, offering lithe tannin, satin-like in texture and a harmonious, effervescent finish, where blood orange suffuses the blue fruit. Irresistible.” (October, 2018)
Wine Advocate (William Kelley) 88-90
“Aromas of berry fruit, grilled squab, rich spices, dark chocolate and loamy soil introduce the 2017 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Cailles, a medium to full-bodied wine with a slightly roasted fruit profile that's framed by fine-grained but firm, chalky tannins. I suspect it may show better from bottle.” (January, 2019)
