Notes:
There have been so many outstanding vintages of Clos des Ursules over the last twenty-five years that it is hard to say that the 2010 is the best of this fine run, but if it is not the finest, it is right up there with the other absolutely reference point vintages of Clos des Ursules, as this wine is stunning. The deep, very pure and nicely reserved nose offers up a complex mlange of cassis, sappy black cherries, espresso, woodsmoke, a beautifully complex base of soil, and a deft touch of new wood. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and wonderfully sappy at the core, with stunning transparency, beautiful, nascent complexity, ripe tannins and magical length and grip on the dancing, primary and utterly suave finish. Put this one right up there with the 2005 and 1999 Clos des Ursules (both of which I probably underrated out of the blocks) as one of the greatest vintages since 1978 for this great wine.
