Allen Meadows' Burghound, January 2010
(Note: from a 1.12 ha parcel of 75+ year old vines.) The most complex array of aromas to this point with an airy, elegant and classy nose brimming with violets, anise, earth and red currant notes that complement to perfection the rich, full-bodied, generous and round medium weight plus flavors that explode onto the hugely long and powerful finish. A wine that manages to pull off the rare feat of being at once imposing yet highly refined.91-94 points and Sweet Spot Outstanding
John Gilman's View from the Cellar, Nov/Dec 2009
The 2008 Les Cailles is a stellar wine in the making, and it was simply singing at the time of my visit. The bouquet is deep, very pure and classy, as it offers up scents of red and black cherries, great minerality, woodsmoke, gamebirds, gentle nutty tones and a deft touch of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, very pure and quite closed, with great mid-palate depth, fine-grained, substantial tannins and a very long, soil-driven and tangy finish. Really outstanding backend grip. 93+ points
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, March/April 2010
Deep, bright red. Superripe, complex nose melds berries, violet, damp earth and a whiff of balsamic vinegar. Wonderfully silky and suave on entry, then spicy and pure in the middle, with a very fresh black cherry flavor dominating underlying earth and floral notes. This spreads out impressively on the back end, with broad tannins saturating the palate. 91-94 points
