Notes:
As it has been all its life, the '05 Clos de Vougeot remains quite reserved though aggressive swirling eventually coaxes notably ripe dark berry liqueur-like aromas that are cut with notes of warm earth, leather and underbrush. There is excellent concentration to the broad-shouldered, powerful and intense flavors that possess an impressive level of sappy dry extract, all wrapped in a driving, youthfully austere and ever-so-mildly rustic finish. This is a classically styled example of the appellation that is clearly still very much evolving and to my taste one that will require at least another decade of bottle age first.
