Notes:
Allen Meadows, Burghound, April 2007
The most refined of this group of Beaune 1ers with the most aromatic complexity as well to the beautiful blend of red, black and violet notes that introduce rich, suave and velvety medium full flavors that are classy, powerful and vibrant. This is a bigger and bolder wine than the Boucherottes but the balance and purity of the former holds its own with the size and weight of the Ursules. A stylistic choice. 90-92 points and Outstanding!
John Gilman's View from the Cellar, Jan/Feb 2007
The flagship Jadot Beaune, the Clos des Ursules, is also outstanding in 2005. The bouquet is very deep and quite ripe, as it offers up a flashy blend of black cherries, plums, chocolate, vinesmoke, earth and a touch of tobacco. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, plush and very deep, with fine purity, impressive mid-palate depth, ripe tannins and a long, complex and powerful finish. This is bigger, more powerful and concentrated than the Grèves, but to my palate it is not quite as tightly knit, focused and complex. The impression of acidity here is also noticeably lower than the Grèves. That said, this too is a very successful bottle of Beaune in this vintage. 90-92 points.
Stephen Tanzer's International WIne Cellar, March/April 2008
Good deep, bright red. Very ripe but vibrant aromas of dark raspberry, brown spices and mocha, complemented by an earthy element. Sweet and lush but with the firm minerality, juicy acidity and tannic spine for a slow evolution in bottle. For all its ripeness and palate presence, this communicates an almost magically light touch. 91(?) points.
