Virely-Rougeot - Bourgogne

I asked one question.

"Do you really have this in stock?” and before he responded I said “I'll take it all!"

Many of you bought it back in the spring, and I know a number of you have been asking me for more. I didn't expect to receive any, but sometimes patience pays huge dividends.

It doesn't take long to understand why this wine has developed such a following. Domaine Virely-Rougeot farms just 9 hectares in and around Pommard, where the family has been making wine for generations. The fruit comes from vineyards just outside of Pommard, giving the wine incredible depth and power for a regional wine. Hand-harvested, fermented in stainless steel, and aged primarily in French oak, the 2023 offers everything we like about a solar vintage. Ripe flavors of cherry and blackberry, soar from the glass that also offers hints of spice all beautifully proportioned leading to a finish that begs for another sip. 

Don't think of this Bourgogne as a lightweight by any means. This has Pommard DNA in it, but without the hard tannins and structure that we have all come to associate with Pommard. The price is just flat ridiculous at $32. This is a $50 wine any day of the week, and one I can't recommend any more highly. It absolutely flew out the last time I had it available. Get some before it's gone.
