Article: Vincent Dauvissat Chablis

Vincent Dauvissat Chablis

Vincent Dauvissat Chablis

Today’s offer highlights one of the great domaines of Burgundy: Domaine Vincent Dauvissat. For more than 25 years, these bottlings have stood as benchmarks for Chablis, revered for their precision, depth, and longevity.

This release also marks the first time we’ve been able to offer the domaine’s red wine, Irancy.

Hailing from the village just north of Chablis, which produces Pinot Noir, Irancy is producing wines that serious oenophiles must watch, especially given today’s warmer growing seasons. The wines have gained depth and completeness, often rivaling examples from the Côte d’Or. In the hands of Dauvissat, the results are absolutely worth your attention.

Even more exciting, we are including magnums of 1er Cru La Forest — something we haven’t seen available in more than fifteen years. You know how we feel about magnums. As someone who has been buying and drinking Dauvissat for decades, I can say without hesitation that there is no such thing as too many of these in the cellar.

This small parcel is coming from Europe and will arrive in early spring. Quantities are extremely limited, and once they’re gone, that’s likely it for the foreseeable future.

This is aromatically similar to the Petit Chablis with just a bit more Chablis typicity as well as a floral top note. There is also better underlying tension and detail that suffuses the medium-bodied flavors that possess slightly more refinement, all wrapped in a more mineral-driven and drier finale. This is excellent for its level and a wine that could also be enjoyed young or held for up to a decade. Buy it.

Burghound, 90 Outstanding!

The 2022 Chablis exhibits scents of white peach, oyster shell and white flowers mingled with subtle hints of nutmeg and youthful reduction. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and incisive, it's concentrated and racy, concluding with a long, precise finish.

- William Kelley 90-93

There is a hint of phenolic character on the aromas of crushed leaf, mineral reduction, lemon-lime and seaweed. The dense, succulent and powerful larger-scaled flavors are supported by a firm acid spine on the stony, youthfully austere and bitter citrus rind finale. This is quite dry and I very much like the balance though I would note that at least some patience is strongly suggested as this is quite tightly wound today.

Burghound, 92-94

There is ample citrus influence suffusing the nose that could be from nowhere else but Chablis with its array of seashore, algae and oyster shell scents. The caressing but notably denser and more powerful larger-bodied flavors coat the palate while retaining an attractive texture on the strikingly persistent finish that is shaped by bright acidity. This can't match the MdT for refinement but it is presently more complex and should age just as well.

Burghound, 91-93 Sweet Spot Outstanding!

A brilliant wine in the making, Dauvissat's 2022 Chablis 1er Cru La Forest unfurls in the glass with youthfully reductive scents of citrus oil, crisp stone fruit, white flowers, oyster shell and subtle hints of orange blossom. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and incisive, with superb depth at the core and an electric finish, this cuvée has navigated the vintage's extremes with ease.
