Ravaut Bourgogne

One of the things I like hearing most from customers is: Do you have any more of that wine you recommended to me? I introduced you to Domaine Ravaut Bourgogne Côte d'Or with the 2020 vintage, and it has since become a name I keep hearing customers request. It's not a wine you worry about opening, it doesn't need a special occasion to justify it, it just simply delivers knockout quality at a price everyone can appreciate.

The Ravaut family has been making wine in Ladoix-Serrigny for five generations, farming approximately 17 hectares across the northern Côte de Beaune. Their holdings include Ladoix, Aloxe-Corton, Corton, and Corton-Charlemagne, giving them access to an impressive range of the best the Côte de Beaune has to offer. As impressive as the vineyards are, it's the meticulous vineyard work, the attention to detail, the thoughtful élevage that really makes this domaine shine.

With the way Burgundy prices have skyrocketed, the wines I most often seek out are those at the Bourgogne or regional level. We've seen the quality of these wines improve immensely over the years, as climate change has helped more consistently ripen many of these vineyards, but more importantly, as prices have increased it has allowed domaines to employ more people in the vineyards, and that vineyard work has been the main reason these wines have improved so dramatically.

It also helps that in the case of Ravaut, many of the vines are now approaching 40 years of age. Couple that with well-drained, limestone-rich soils and you have the recipe for a wine that offers great purity and freshness with a sappy old-vine density, an expressive nose of cherry and wild raspberry, delicate spice, silky, well-balanced tannins, and just enough earthy minerality to remind you why Burgundy is your favorite wine to drink!

You can easily spend $75 and get a wine that would struggle to match the quality of this beauty. This is a wine I've been sold out of since the end of last year. I did get what the importer told me were his last 10 cases. Do yourself a favor and buy more of this than you think you'll drink in the short term. As good as this drinks today, you won't be disappointed if a year from now you pull out one of these and watch how much it has developed. You can't say that about many Bourgognes. Very highly recommended!
