Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier
Wanted to start by wishing everyone a Happy New Year!
With the start of the new year, I wanted to make our first offer a memorable one. And I can’t think of anything more memorable than Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru “Les Amoureuses.”
Those of you who know me know that Mugnier’s wines are among my absolute favorites. I had the pleasure of opening a bottle of the 2002 Amoureuses over the holidays, and it completely reaffirmed my impression that this is one of the truly exceptional Burgundy wines being produced today. If you have had the wine, Burghound’s description, “Pure class,” sums it up perfectly.
This wine is arriving from France and is expected to land in April.
6 bottles available.
An exuberantly floral-suffused nose is perfumed, airy and wonderfully spicy. The lacy, pure and focused middle weight flavors display an almost aggressive minerality on the youthfully austere and equally long finale that is shaped by notably fine-grained tannins. This beauty of an Amoureuses is already stunningly good with the development potential to match. Pure class.

Exotic scents of peonies, rose petals and Indian spices mingle with notions of ripe berry fruit and grilled game birds in an incipiently complex bouquet to introduce the 2022 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses, a medium to full-bodied, supple and layered wine with a creamy core of fruit and a spicy finish.

Les Amoureuses 2022 is a surprisingly intense wine, coming after the Bonnes Mares. I am an Amoureuses fan, so what can I say? It feels like Christmas! This is generous and hedonistic even at this early stage, with rich mid-palate fruit – wow! The nose offers delicate hints of roses with a slight perfume of lilac. It somehow has a warmer, more intimate expression than the mighty Musigny. Sexy, yes, and hedonistic by the gallon; a magnificent Amoureuses.
