Éphémère Champagne No.29
With a production that doesn’t crack 10,000 bottles, I’m delighted that I was able to secure just 36. That may sound modest, but the reality is this: if you don’t grab some here, you’ll be hard-pressed to find it elsewhere. And if you do—don’t hesitate to buy it. It’s ephemeral.
Which brings us to the name… Éphémère. It’s exactly what it suggests—something fleeting. A moment captured, then gone. Each release is a one-off collaboration, and this 029 marks the seventh year of Frédéric Savart inviting a different grower into the fold to create something singular.
If you’re not familiar, Fréd Savart is one of the most respected grower-producers in Champagne today, based in Écueil on the Montagne de Reims. He built his reputation on intensely expressive, site-driven wines that emphasize precision, energy, and tension. His bottlings have become cult favorites for a reason—they’re unmistakably his, yet always transparent to terroir.
For this release, Savart partnered with Alexandre Chartogne of Chartogne-Taillet, one of the leading voices in the Côte des Blancs. The result is a compelling intersection of styles: Savart’s drive and cut layered with Chartogne’s breadth and texture.
The wine is 100% Chardonnay from Grand Cru vineyards in Avize and Cramant, and it shows. There’s real depth and richness here, yet it never loses its footing—chalky, saline, and tightly coiled, with the freshness and finesse that define the top sites of the Côte des Blancs.
The wine is fantastic.
