Borgeot 2024

Domaine Borgeot is a name I’ve got clients asking for these days, and once you discover the wines you tend to not forget the name. I offered a couple of weeks ago a re-load on the 2023 Santenay Comme Dessus, a 100% sellout - 48 cases in less than 48 hours! We have sold the Carbonade the last 4 vintages, it's a wine I ask the importer for every time I see him. There’s a reason people keep coming back to this wine. It delivers exactly what I’m always looking for in white Burgundy: enough richness to coat the palate, plenty of intensity, and then that bright, mineral-driven finish that gives the wine its edge.

But there’s more behind Carbonade than simply being a great value. This is a single, walled vineyard in Bouzeron owned entirely by Borgeot—a true monopole—with vines averaging 63 years old planted in very stony soils. It may say Bourgogne Blanc on the label, but there’s a specific piece of ground behind this wine, and I think that goes a long way toward explaining why it consistently delivers so much at this level.

Then you add 2024 to the equation. This vintage continues to impress and now that the wines have been in bottle for a year or so now, the fruit is starting to show as the acidity is starting to soften. I find this bottling of Carbonade having the perfect balance matching enough richness to balance the firm structure the acidity provides. I think honestly if you can keep your hands off it for another couple of years the wine is going to be even better!.

The citrus leaning nose give way to notes of pear up front, with a little more depth and concentration building through the middle. Then the acidity kicks in, followed by that stony, saline character that has become a calling card for Carbonade. It has weight, it has energy, and most importantly, it’s flat-out delicious!
