2022 Domaine Robert Chevillon
“2022 is as good a vintage as Chevillon has made, and that's saying something as the quality is almost never less than excellent”
It is a great pleasure to offer the 2022 Domaine Robert Chevillon. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been collecting this domaine for my own cellar. It's been hard to keep my hands off them but I still have a few bottles of the 1993. That had to be one of my earliest Burgundy purchases.
It's not every day that you see every single wine listed from a producer receiving outstanding from Burghound. Reading his reviews it's hard not to be excited by the prospect that these are some of the finest wines this domaine has ever produced. Having quite a lot of experience with these wines, I know how these riper vintages work so magically with the Nuits St. Georges terroirs. This is a superb vintage chez Chevillion, so anyone that has liked these wines in the past, you are going to want to own these 2022’s! As Burghound writes,
2022 Chevillon Nuits St Georges Blanc
2022 Chevillon Nuits St Georges Vieilles Vignes
An exuberantly fresh and even perfumed nose features notes of black pinot fruit, earth and a hint of anise. There is excellent verve and definition to the utterly delicious if not especially dense middleweight flavors that are shaped by relatively fine-grained tannins on the bitter pit fruit-inflected finish. This is an excellent Nuits villages and recommended. Burghound 89-92 Outstanding Top Value! Aromas of orange, dark berries, plums and spices introduce Chevillon's 2022 Nuits-Saint-Georges Vieilles Vignes, a medium to full-bodied, supple and perfumed wine that's charming and sensual, concluding with a saline finish. This cuvée never seems to miss a beat.

2022 Chevillon Nuits St Georges 1er Prulieres
This is aromatically similar to the Perrières with perhaps just a touch more sauvage character in evidence. The powerful if slightly less concentrated flavors pack first-rate punch on the moderately austere, vibrant and compact finale that is also built to repay longer-term cellaring, indeed 20 years would not be a surprise.
- Burghound, 92-94
The 2022 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Pruliers is unusually supple and suave for this site, offering up aromas of dark berries, orange zest, peonies, vine smoke and grilled squab, followed by a medium to full-bodied, supple and velvety palate with lively acids, sweet tannins and a saline finish.
- William Kelley, 92-93
2022 Chevillon Nuits St Georges 1er Bousselots
A subtle but not invisible application of wood sets off more deeply pitched aromas of plum, dark currant and a hint of forest floor. There is both more volume and power, if a bit less refinement, to the attractively textured medium-bodied flavors that possess the classic youthful austerity of a classic Bousselots. This too is lovely though note well it is built-to-age.
- Burghound, 91-93 Outstanding!
Aromas of cherries, dark berries, plums, raw cocoa and spices introduce the 2022 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Bousselots, a medium to full-bodied, velvety and layered wine with supple tannins, lively acids and a sapid finish. It's a touch deeper-pitched and more structured than the Chaignots.
- William Kelley, 91-93
2022 Chevillon Nuits St Georges 1er Perrieres
Here too there is just enough wood present to point out on the more sauvage-inflected aromas of earth and violet along with a similar touch of poached plum. The velvety and palate coating medium-bodied flavors possess both good power and an almost pungent minerality on the youthfully austere, compact and quite serious finish that is built for the long haul. This is also excellent but not well that it's not going to drink especially well young.
- Burghound, 92-94
The 2022 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Perrières shows both the warmth of the vintage and the rockiness of this terroir. Offering up aromas of rich dark fruits and plum preserve, it's medium to full-bodied, rich and concentrated, with a sun-kissed core of fruit that's underpinned by lively acids and chalky tannin.
- William Kelley, 90-92
2022 Chevillon Nuits St Georges 1er Vaucrains
A more reserved nose grudgingly reflects notes of poached plum, earth, plenty of sauvage character and interesting whiffs of crushed star anise. There is a bit more minerality present on the vibrant and intense medium weight plus flavors that possess excellent delineation that carries over to the firm, compact and tautly muscular finish. This youthfully austere effort is going to require extended patience as it's both backward and very tightly wound yet oh so promising!
- Burghound, 93-96 Don't Miss Outstanding!
The 2022 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Vaucrains is inky and serious, unwinding in the glass with notions of dark berries, cherries and plums complemented by subtle hints of rose petal and violet. Full-bodied, layered and muscular, with an imposing chassis of rich, powdery tannins, this will, as ever, reward patience.
- William Kelley, 93-95
2022 Chevillon Nuits St Georges 1er Les Cailles
An ultra-fresh nose exhibits an airy array of essence of red cherry, cranberry and lavender that is trimmed in noticeable but not intrusive wood. The cool, pure and equally fresh medium weight flavors possess terrific vibrancy along with first-rate delineation on the refined, focused and youthfully austere finish that delivers sneaky good length. The innate class of a fine Cailles is clearly present and I very much like the overall sense of harmony. If you can find it, buy it.
- Burghound, 92-95
2022 Chevillon Nuits St Georges 1er Les St Georges
Here the wood influence is also nicely subtle on the floral and spice-inflected red pinot, cherry and soft earth-suffused aromas. There is good detail to the bigger, richer and more obviously muscular flavors that manage to remain reasonably refined on the youthfully austere, refreshing and lightly stony finish that is compact, powerful and very clearly built-to-age. This is very much a 'buy and forget' LSG but one that eventually should be well-worth the wait. In a word, outstanding.
- Burghound, 93-95
The 2022 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Saint-Georges is the king of the cellar, exhibiting beautiful aromas of raspberries, blood orange, sweet spices, peonies, licorice and vine smoke, followed by a medium to full-bodied, seamless and complete palate that's deep and layered, with a vibrant core of fruit, supple tannins and a long, perfumed finish.
- William Kelley, 93-96
